End of Glamour – Back to DVF ❤ My fave DVF SS/10 pieces..

Hello guys!

I have not blogged in so long I feel sick to the stomach. So I have finished my work experience at Glamour which was amazing, very eye opening to see just how a magazine runs. I am still in awe at the sheer skill that the editors and assistants have. They are able to pull looks together in seconds from a pool of  various brands from high street to designer, every single detail is considered right down to a bracelet or a ring. I’ve noticed they really care about what they are selecting for the readers. I believe that the editors  have carefully picked each garment that they believe best dictates this seasons trends, and are not just trying to influence brands on you that have bought advertising space with them.

Back to DVF… LOVE <3

DVF is my unofficial home and very glad to be back there. Autumn Winter pieces have hit the stores so, sadly, that means Summer is nearly over. But catch the last pieces of DVF’s Spring/Summer sale at Matches or Net-a-Porter and of course Selfridges, Harrods and Harvey Nichols.

DVF SALE IS STILL ON!

Shop the DVF sale at Matches here —-> Matches – DVF SALE

Currently on sale at Matches. Some of my favourite and best pieces of DVF’s Spring Summer collection.

The Milton Dress: Now £268 on sale at Matches

This dress was SO popular, a very feminine elegant dress with very nice drapin. Kate Bosworth below wearing the Milton, looking gorgeous.

*

The Francia Dress: Now £248 on sale at Matches.

A very fitted dress that accentuates the curves, with silk chiffon draping to the waist and bottom. I have this dress and it looks amazing! (Will model with pics soon!)

The Tabalah Dress: Now £228 on sale at Matches.

I just love this Indian Summer print on this Tunic style dress.

The Cordie Dress: Now £348 on sale at Matches.

Absolutely stunning dress, really glamourous summer looking – on a yacht in St. Tropez style. It  is very fitted around the thighs and bum and the top just hangs loosely off the shoulder, a very sexy dress for summer – Will model and show pics of how it looks on ….. oh god….

The Cortiza Dress: Now £248 on sale at Matches

Beautiful bright yellow dress with unique draping detail, definitely another glamours dress for the Summer parties in the sun. There is a twisted knot detail at the waist which makes the whole dress drape really nicely.

The Cipolla Top: Now £128 on sale at Matches

This top is one of my favourite pieces of DVF, the print and the colours are stunning petals of reds, golds and black. It looks great with leggings or tucked in to a skirt, it really adds colour and makes an outfit. There is a drawstring tie which you can adjust to make the top fittedat the sides.

The Ventura Jacket: Now £388 on sale at Matches

This is a really well made piece, the crochet detailing is beautiful. This is a nice dress jacket for the summer. It has that Tahitian style with the crochet and earthy fabric look but a very elegant and jacket to go over an evening dress or just to wear with jeans in the day. With a brown belt at the waist looks great as you can wear it almost as a dress. I love.

All these pieces are on sale now as we are coming to the end of Summer collection – get them quick before they sell out!

Tomorrow – PICTURES!

Glamour Magazine Fashion Cupboard – McQueen, Mulberry, Gina… a total fashion fix week!

Started my first week interning at Glamour magazine…

This week has been amazing – working in the fashion cupboard of Glamour magazine I’m like an addict getting my fix! I feel dizzy being surrounded by beautiful clothes, shoes handbags, jewellery  all of which have been hand picked by the professionals. The Editors and fashion assistants have sifted through tons of brands and their Autumn Winter look books and selected the best peices for the current edition of which are all sitting in the fashion cupboard ready for photo shoots and celeb styling.

Watching the editors and stylists work is fascinating, they literally rumage through rails of clothes sifting through high street to haute couture and pull together outfits within minutes. They really have an eye for clothes and know what they are doing! These are the people that you could say ‘dictate’ fashion to a certain extent, they have a level of influence on the readers and their fashion choices, I know that I definitely take inspiration

This internship is definitely an eye opener for me, having worked a lot within in-house PR for brands as well as at agencies, working for a publication like Conde Nast has given me an insight into the fashion PR world as a whole. Both sides, the brand and the media publications need one another to function. Brands work to push their collections into the magazines and the magazines need brands to make their features.

One thing I’ve noticed about Fashion editors and those, people would often associate Fashion editors as bitches and stuck up pretentious cows. NO… These women are the coolest women I’ve ever met.

Anyway enough of the writing… on to pictures!

§

The fashion cupboard, messy, clothes EVERYWHERE – But I LOVE IT!

Gina shoes GALORE – Stunning shoes at Gina as always. Aaaah, how I dream of Gina shoes!!

The very complex chiffon layered one shoulder cowl neck and embroidered corset body Moschino dress that everyone was trying to figure out how it was meant to work… which I did! (It helps that I work in retail…):D

I can’t wait for Autmun Winter Fashion already – the style for shoes look great for this the coming season.

Khaki, Military colours and heavy bomber jackets… Shoes are all about Suede, Wedges and Lace up Booties with fur/shearling trim..(think J.Lo in ‘All My Love Video – but with less pink!)

Bomber jackets in leather or suede with shearling wool collars and sleeves are hot for A/W 10. Very Howard Hughes in the Aviator – Burberry Porsum’s RTW AW 10 collection is all about the Military 1930′s Aviation look.

The AMAZING Alexander McQueen Knuckle Duster Clutch – FASHIONISTA HEART ATTACK!!

These retail for about £995 … sob sob cry cry :( !!

*************************

Throughout the week there have been call ins from various brands and I have noticed that Mulberry have a really strong Autumn Winter 2010 collection, their dresses are exceptional, an unobvious brand for Ready to Wear as they are known for their handbags however their Ladieswear this coming season is breathtaking. Splashes of colour in rich purples and golds,

This black dress with Gold chain strap detail above is stunning, also in a rich purple satin colour against the gold chain on the straps – Wow. The collection is glamorous and preppy, classic and girly with a lot of rich colour and elaborate prints, the collection reminds me of the style of Milly NY, one of my favourite brands. Mulberry’s AW 2010 collection is a ‘complete’ collection whereby every piece looks stunning not just the odd few! I want to own every piece and that is quite rare in an entire collection!

Check out the whole Mulberry  AW 10 Look Book here

Whistles: Rebirth

Another brand to look out for at the moment is Whistles. Yes, an unlikely choice for young and trendy clothes and a brand I have always associated with as being ‘an older brand’ but contrary to the previous brand image / perception I’ve held, Whistles have some great peices for the coming A/W 10. The dresses are fun and quirky but remain classic and wearable as everyday workwear. Their Spring 10 collection was dull and frumpy and quite ‘mumsy’ looking however their current Roksanda Illincic Spring Collection has got better, younger and more lively.

Check out the Roksanda Illincic Spring 10 collection here
No photos as of yet for the AW 10 collection but I’ve had a preview at some of the samples sent into Glamour this week and its definitely a brand to watch. Lots of slinky, sequin dresses and two tones dresses with mixed fabrics, leather and suede on tight fitted and structured pieces. Whistles has definitely caught my eye as a brand I will be looking out for!

So round up… I’ve loved every second of Glamour I feel so alive being amongst the buzz and fast paced working environment of a womens fashion and lifestyle magazine. I feel alittle like LC in The Hills when she was at TeenVogue!  I know its probably not as high scale in terms of fashion but in my head I am tripping out! Ready for another week… Though my time at Glamour will only be for 3 weeks before I return to DVF.. I think this blog should now be called The London life of a Fashion Intern… don’t you think?!

The sunny, funny weekend – “I live in the ‘Bu’” and “I was in a knife fight” Classic!

What an amazing weekend. I hope you all enjoyed the sun! What a scorcher it was today..

Well, I have not blogged in such a while, and I feel terrible. Shame on me I know but I just haven’t found the time, busy working 7 days a week! But I can’t complain, life is what you make it and right now life is good.

So my weekend, Friday night – After work drinks at Aqua – (I thought I would give Aqua one more chance to redeem itself after an awful experience a few weeks ago, and since it was the only roof top terrace bar nearby. It was OK – service still appalling but the roof terrace is beautiful, also the fact that I was with great people it did not matter so much.

Champagne on Aqua roof top terrace – what a view.

The gorgeous girlies, the Portugese stunner Danni ‘from Malibu‘ who is ON POINT for every photo and does not miss an angle! And the uber sexy Reema, ladddy in reeeeddd..

The beautiful blondie, Natalie..

Such a paparazzi pic!

Danni seems to have a different pose for every shot…. Hmmm.. I think she needs to make me a manual! Danni you are too funny, and trying pass as an L.A girl from “The Bu” for the night…  And the ghastly burn on my arm, passed as”I was in a knife fight” surprisingly people believed I’m that hardcore! Such jokes..

Saturday – What a hot day it was.. Sadly I had to work and was stuck indoors all day. So as soon as lunch came. Strip, black clothes off and ran to the park with the girls!

Then dinner and shisha at Maroush.. The food there is very good.

Ahhh… Summer nights are the best in London. There is so much to do everyone is chilled and mellow – but the best is spending it with the coolest people, and my group of girls are the best – LOVE U LOTS honeys! xxx

Well funs over, back to reality tomorrow.. looking forward to bank holiday weekend.

Bank Hol Wknd: DVF event & aqua bar

What an eventful weekend, but surprisingly enough no partying involved this weekend :O (such a shocker I know). But no, no this weekend I might say, was strictly business!!

So, this week was my first week at DVF. Thrilling, fast pace and exciting. I have been on an adrenaline rush all week! This week has been a roller coaster, with lots of work and preparation in the lead up to the fashion showcase of the Oasis collection of Ready-To-Wear and Swimwear, a press day at Selfridges on Saturday 1st May.

DVF’s Oasis collection currently in store is stunning, beautiful desert prints inspired by ancient parts of the world and historic influences of the Middle East and Europe. Animal prints in Zebra and Leopard as well as Aztec prints echoing the temples of Egypt. Looking at the prints and you can see the cultural inspiration in the design, (like the pink Aztec dress below ) but it is still and wearable without looking like a costume of culture.

The stunning models in DVF…

I love love love this beach jumpsuit from DVF Swimwear, it’s gorgeous!

I must tell you, my stereotype of models being bitches and divas was completely wrong, these girls are extremely hardworking and down to earth! I witnessed the pain they endured from standing in heels for 5 hours and never did they complain or moan. Modeling is a hard job and I respect the models who do their job professionally and get on with it.

My schedule for the day… the different looks in the time slots.

********************************************************************************************

On to the weekend… The weather was AWFUL this weekend with London almost flooding in the space of 1 hour on Friday night, I was actually stuck under a shop roof for 25 minutes waiting for the rain to be bearable to walk through! Even now I have not yet learnt my lesson that I MUST MUST MUST carry a damn UMBRELLA with me no matter what the weather looks like in the morning!

On to Friday night… I went to Aqua bar in Oxford Circus with my glamorous Greek friend Carolina for drinks. Pure disappointment.  AWFUL. And it’s a shame since Aqua is such a beautiful place with such stunning decor and interior offering a completely different concept in the likes of a Japanese Restaurant and a Spanish Tappas restaurant together. Despite being a ‘trendy’ place to go the crowd on Friday seemed to have turned into ‘Essex’ girls and groups of British lads who were way too drunk.  Service at the bar was disgraceful, waiting 25 minutes to order a drink only to watch the barmen saunter around taking their sweet time making our cocktails. Only compliment is that the cocktails were actually delicious. If you do go I recommend the aqua kyoto cocktail, strong & sweet, served in a Japanese Sake pot and small tea cup.

This just proves that no matter how trendy, posh and cosmopolitan a place may seem in its exterior, if the service is lacking and the crowd is tacky there is no hope. Once you have a beautiful Bar/ Restaurant with a great concept in the centre of London, which luckily for them seems to bring people in, it does not mean the work is done. The standards and reputation must be maintained to keep the right crowd returning. I, for one shall think twice about returning to Aqua, neither will I recommend my friends to go there. To operate in the Service and Hospitality industry is tough, one ‘off day’ a mishap or bad waiter / barman can lead to a place’s demise, through word of mouth, bad reviews which can have huge impact nowadays. Therefore standards should be kept at all times. The toughest thing in the Restaurant / Bar / Service industry is maintaining the standards you’ve set.

Ok. Rant and lecture over, needed to get that out of my system!!

Friday night…

DVF, Martinis and Cupcakes… ❤

Such a brilliant week I’ve had, and it’s only Wednesday! Roll on the rest of the week..

My week so far in pictures..

Monday – After work drinks with friend at Mayfair bar. Nothing like a nice Martini to end a hectic first day! The Le Poire Martini I had was mouthwateringly fruity, sweet with a strong taste of alcohol. The cucumber Martini, even stronger but still fresh.

Then I came across some car show going on at Mayfair Hotel. Amazing Lamborghini.. Someone buy for me? Please?

Today: At DVF – BEAUTIFUL CLOTHES GALORE. One of the many reasons I love to work in fashion is the ability to work with such wonderful clothes and top designer brands. These clothes are not just clothes, there is an unbelievable amount of work and an entire thought process put in to every single piece. Today I met another intern who has even designed some of the collections in the New York office. And she gave me an understanding of just how much work goes into every piece. The designers that put together a collection really think about every single detail, even the colour of a bead on the embellishment or if the thread is the right colour palette as the beads etc. I completely admire how designers put their heart and soul into their work.

Lola’s cupcakes round the corner from work by Berkeley Square. The cupcakes here are adorable and so delicious! My fellow intern Stevy and I spotted them on our quest for a sushi place and we could not let these go! Isn’t it strange how when us girls see cake shops or beautiful desserts displayed there is some kind of magnetic force that pulls us to the cake? Once we’ve seen them we simply cant ignore them! And howcome men don’t get that??!

Great week so far, I love working, though it’s an internship I feel like I am going somewhere again. I am such a driven person that I always need to be busy or working towards something that will get me to my goal. After a tough past 2 months I’m finally feeling great and life couldn’t be better.

Bring on tomorrow!

Update: Me today

Wearing a a gorgeous purple and black short hair faux fur jacket my Mother got me for my birthday! LOVE IT! Better than a coat when you want to keep your outfit glamorous and not cover that fabulous dress you have on underneath!

This is from G IVe – a store on Regent Street. This store has NEVER appealed to me as it appeared to me as a boring, older brand. So very wrong I was. They actually do some very nice clothes, simple and classy dinner jackets and tops with very good quality fabric. It just goes to show you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, and with fashion, explore and be a savvy shopper. If you see a new shop and it doesn’t appeal to you straight away just go in and have a look, most of the time you’ll be amazed.

Still a little dazed from all the drinks this weekend – not sure if blurry eyes and temporary short sightedness is a side effect?!? :S

Start internship tomorrow – VERY excited. Won’t say who but give you a hint. The City.

And yet again, our lovely but fickle British sunshine was short lived. So I hope you got enough sun these past few days because it’s going to be rainy mostly next week! :(

However I must say am thoroughly enjoying London life at the moment. London is looking and feeling alive again now that Summer is here. Nice cars cruising along Knightsbridge, roof terrace BBQ’s on the weekends and drinking champagne from 4 in the afternoon. ❤

Women and perfume, as the Chinese say…

Ah I’m very happy.. look what the boy bought me – Marc Jacobs Lola perfume!

This perfume is sweet, rich and musky with tones of vanilla, rose, pink pepper and peony. Similar to the Arabic style perfumes from Tom Ford and Guerlain, however Lola is younger and not overly mature or overpowering like many ‘musky’ perfumes can be. I recommend this perfume if you want a fragrance quite sophisticated and mysterious for the evening as it is quite a powdery boudoir like scent with sweet flowery notes. I found this lasted a whole evening on my skin too. Plus, the bottle is pretty!

There is a humourous phrase in Cantonese about women and perfume that my mother always jokes about.

It goes…

“heung siu: liu yun tiey, lam yun mai.”

Translated exactly.

“perfume: women look, men buy.”

So simple and straight! Chinese sayings are so blunt and to the point!

If I am ever shopping with my mother and happen to pick up a perfume to look at she will cast me a look that immediately tells me.. “don’t be silly, you have a lot to learn, women simply look at perfume, men buy.” I don’t think she understands it’s not easy these days! Sadly, chivalry is dead. :(

I think this saying should be as standard because I am one of the many girls that still hold on to hopes of chivalry and the gentlemen of yester-year!

But thank you bunny for my perfume! There are still some gentlemen out there… ❤

What a weekend.. 17/18 Apr – Sketch, Eclipse, Maddox, Cirque Du Soir

Had a fabulous birthday weekend – sorry no pics, my camera has failed me after pushing it for 4 years! But we had a good run… Seriously time for an upgrade now!

Friday night – drinks with the girls at Sketch, which was surprisingly dead. Then Eclipse bar in Knightsbridge which was better. I had completely forgotten about Eclipse bar, a great place for pre-drinks and if you want WELL MADE delicious cocktails with good ingredients then Eclipse do the best Watermelon Martinis and Passion fruit Martinis. Lots of fruit to make up the taste rather than flavoured water and sugar syrups, the baristas make the bar lively and artistic too.

Saturday night - Maddox club. Such a small club with an unusual setting, but it’s the people that make it amazing. Great DJ – electro house but not very commercial. For an hour or so we left Maddox to try Cirque Du Soir round the corner, a circus themed club. Apparently there was a special event with a crazy wizard performing tricks. Cirque Du Soir was very small, I would call it a glorified bar not a club! Atmosphere – OK. More of a younger, laid back crowd – Urban Junkies and Retro Fashion Bloggers, Urban Outfitters and Camden girls etc. The atmosphere is definitely different to any other London club with its fantasy like circus theme and live acts, but all in all I found it quite disappointing based on the size and crowd etc. To enjoy your night here I would suggest going to this place with a BIG group of people and getting a table. And maybe an open mind.

Overwhelmed by all the sweet birthday messages this weekend, thanks guys. ❤
